Takaki's letter

Hi! I'm Takaki. I am doing very well back in Japan.

Throughout this page, you see how I and my brother Koki are growing in Japan with pictures.

April 7, 1997

I entered elementary school "Momoshi". Dad took this picture on the first day at school. I am looking up at my teacher Ms. Honda from my seat in the first row. Do you find I'm looking a little nervous, but very happy?

It was surprising that I saw Sabina Pendse in Tokyo. She stayed in Tokyo this summer with her friends of Maine in the Children's International Summer Village program. It was very warm. But, we all family visited Sabina. On the Open day of the camp, we saw Sabina and her group dance in American style(?) on the stage.

January 24 and 25, 1998

Joane, Old Town Montessori School, Maine, USA, sent us a "Flat Stanley". He is a world traveler drawn by Erin, a girl of another Montessori School. We took him to experience a rhythmic lesson in our Montessori "Kids' House"(see the right-hand-side picture) and "Mochi-tsuki" (rice pounding, the left-hand-side picture). The steamed rice came very soft and sticky after pounding about 100 times. We ate some of the pounded rice, of course, with Flat Stanley. He was sent back to Erin happy with the adventure.
